About the role

At present, our client is seeking a Dental Chairside Assistant to join their team, on a temporary 6-month fixed term contract role, supporting the Principal practitioner in the daily activities of the practice.  This role is diverse and varied, where you will join a team using your chairside skills and expertise to hit the ground running with a common-sense approach to completing key tasks.

Your calm, conducive nature and methodical approach allows you to seamlessly complete the required practice tasks in a professional and emotionally steady manner; ensuring each client interaction is maintained with the utmost care, TLC and due diligence. 

This role is on offer as an initial 6-month fixed term contract with the opportunity to extend.  Travelers welcomed with appropriate working rights in Australia.

Duties

This role is broken into four key areas of duties:

General Dental Assistant Tasks

  • Meet, greet and seat patients

  • Ensure aseptic protocols are carried out

  • File and maintain patient records accurately

  • Set-up and clean-down of treatment area, including the preparation of instruments

  • Completing TLC tasks for patients, such as follow up phone calls

  • Processing of radiographs

  • General dental assistant duties as required

Reception Tasks

  • Creating and booking of appointments for patients

  • Answering the phones and taking messages

  • Ensuring messages are correctly relayed in a timely manner

  • Processing payments using a POS system and providing receipt of payment to patients

  • General reception duties as required

Laboratory Tasks

  • Trimming temporary crowns

  • Correct storage and labelling of models

  • Maintaining a clean and safe laboratory area

  • Arranging the delivery of models to outside labs as required

Stock Control

  • Preparation of monthly stock control and compilation lists

  • Ensuring stock is rotated with FIFO management

  • Ensuring stock is maintained at minimum levels

About You

This role is open to a self-starter that is able to demonstrate the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, is open minded, enthusiastic and able to support the principal practitioner in delivering a seamless patient experience.

Essential

  • Minimum 18 months demonstrated experience within dental assisting

  • Excellent time management skill

  • Methodical and common-sense approach to workflow

  • Ability to keep a cool, calm demeanour ensuring a seamless patient experience

  • Adept pro-active listening skill

  • Demonstrated autonomy and ownership over tasks

  • Ability to take, interpret notes and receive dictation

Desirable

  • Demonstrated general dental practice experience

  • Certificate III in Dental Assisting or equivalent dental qualification

  • Ability to see the ‘bigger picture’ in relation to tasks completed

  • Current First Aid & CPR certificate

  • Experience taking high quality photos with SLR cameras and uploading to software

  • Experience using dental software

  • Intermediate use of Microsoft packages and basic use of Excel

  • Previous laboratory experience, such as pouring models

  • Previous experience in orthodontics and retainers
